This past week, Aztec Fitness and Wellness partnered with Loran Thompson of The Wellness Edge and Jaydee Cutting of Cutting Edge Sales performance to bring together a Mindful Meditation Seminar.
Loran Thompson kicked it off by explaining the pitfalls of stress and what it does to our bodies. Often referred to as “the silent killer, ” stress is not entirely bad. Stress can be a good thing in certain situations. However, continued stress with no outlet will be detrimental to your health. According to research from consulting firm Aon Hewitt, which surveyed more than 2,800 employees and their dependents, almost half of respondents said their stress level was high or overwhelming. When asked the reasons for their stress, the top four out of five reasons cited were work-related.
The event was followed up with Jaydee Cutting’s meditation workshop. What do Oprah Winfrey, Arianna Huffington, Jerry Seinfeld, Paul McCartney and the late Steve Jobs have in common? They all attribute their success and creativity to their daily meditation practice.
A 2016 study conducted by the National Business Group on Health and Fidelity Investments reveals that 22% of survey participants currently have mindfulness programs and 21% are thinking about introducing one in 2017. Thirty-six percent of companies where mindfulness training is available also permit participation by spousal and dependent partners.
